Interception helps seal victory

Tickets sold for today's game totaled 53,212 as Virginia Tech goes on to win the ACC Championship. After a late interception Virginia Tech. was unable to convert the first down to seal the victory and punted the ball back to BC.

Another Virginia Tech interception stopped BC in their tracks as Xavier Adibi returns the interception for another Hokies touchdown. Virginia Tech goes on to win 30-16.

Tech takes lead

Josh Morgan has set a career high of eight receptions totaling 54-yards. That same drive led to a 21-yard touchdown reception from Glennon to Eddie Royal. The play was reviewed by officials and the touchdown was confirmed. Virginia Tech. takes the lead for the first time today, 23-16.

Rushing record breaks

Today is the blog of record breaking. Virginia Tech quarterback Tyrod Taylor ran a quarterback draw up the middle rushing for 31-yards breaking the record for the longest rush from scrimmage in ACC Championship history. In addition it was Virginia Tech.'s longest play from scrimmage.

More records

Records continue to fall at this year's ACC Championship. Matt Ryan found Brandon Robinson on a 31-yard reception- the longest offensive play of the game. The pass helped setup Andre Callender's ninth reception of the game, an ACC Championship record. BC couldn't convert though leaving with no points after an incomplete pass on 4th and 1.

Tied at halftime

Boston College's mixed extra point helped to allow the Hokies to tie the Eagles at 16 going into the half. Sean Glennon threw a 13-yard pass to Josh Hyman in the endzone. The extra point ties the game at 16.

The Virginia Tech drive lasted 10 plays and 80-yards with 1:37 off the clock. Glennon's touchdown pass was his second of the game setting a new ACC Championship game record.

All three ACC Championship games have now been tied going into halftime. This year's is tied 16-16.

BC scores six; VT takes two

Boston College added to their lead with a 14-yard touchdown run by QB Matt Ryan. The extra point attempt was blocked by none other than Duane Brown. The block was picked up by Brandon Flowers who returns it 75-yards for the defensive two-point conversion.

Brown's blocked point after attempt was his second blocked kick of the game. He blocked BC's field goal attempt earlier in the game. BC is up 16-9 after the touchdown and the defensive two-point conversion.

Hokies score TD

A 16-yad pass with a late hit out of bounds penalty tacked onto the end helped to spark the Hokies in a positive drive. A pass interference call later in the drive helped Virginia Tech get back into the game. Sean Glennon came back into the game at quarterback passing 5-yards to Josh Morgan for the touchdown.

The touchdown is the first offensive touchdown scored during the first half of ACC game history. The touchdown is also Morgan's second ACC Championship game touchdown scoring another during the inaugural event.

The scoring drive went eight plays for 77 yards and took 2:56 off the clock. Virginia Tech trails Boston College 10-7 after the score.

First offensive points

Boston College adds their first offensive points of the game with a 37-yard field goal from Steve Aponavicius. The BC drive covered 16 plays and 59-yards in 6:34. BC leads 10-0 over Virginia Tech with 11:33 remaining in the first half.

First quarter ends

As the first quarter winds to an end Boston College is only up by 7 points on the scoreboard but up by much more in the statistics. BC has had 24 plays including 10 first downs in the first quarter alone totaling 156-yards. The Hokies have had only 13 plays for 16-yards.

Rushing, BC has 9 rushes for 55 yards while VT has 7 rushes for -2 yards. Passing, BC has 101-yards while VT has 18.

Boston College interestingly though only scored on a defensive touchdown and has been unable to get into the endzone offensively. As the second quarter begins, BC is driving to a possible score.

BC's defense scores first

The first points of the game come from Virginia Tech's Tyrod Taylor losing the ball to to BC's Jamie Silva. Silva forced the fumble and took the ball 51-yards to the score. BC now leads 7-0.

The touchdown is the first, first half touchdown in ACC Championship history as well as the longest fumble recovery in Championship history.

Hokies block field goal

Boston College's drive down the field ended with zero points as the field goal attempt was blocked by Duane Brown and recovered by Orion Martin. Virginia Tech takes over on their own 37-yard line.

That block was Brown's second career interception-his last was at Miami last season. Virginia Tech has now blocked three kicks this season, previously blocking two punt attempts.

UPDATE: The blocked field goal did anything but lead to Virginia Tech points. Tech went three and out on the drive ending with a 54-yard punt.

Stadium empty

Fans are few and far between at the stadium today. I counted just about 75 fans total in the upper decks on the eastside of the stadium. The lower bowl is better but teal seats are more abundant then they are at a Jaguars game. Could this be the last year for the ACC Championship here in Jacksonville? Virginia Tech kicks off

Virginia Tech won the coin toss to start today's game and deferred until the second half. Boston College elected to receive and to defend the south endzone. The kickoff went into the endzone letting Boston College start from their own 20.

Weather at kickoff was 69 degrees with winds from the northeast at 17 mph gusting to 23.

ACC Championship

The stage is set and the teams are getting ready to kickoff for the ACC Championship. What are your predictions? Will Boston College win again or will Virginia Tech take control and win the ACC Championship?
